Meet Sarah Chen: The Vision Behind 'Voices Unheard'
Award-winning documentary filmmaker Sarah Chen discusses her journey from journalism to film, and why amplifying marginalized voices remains her life's work.
Sarah Chen never planned to become a documentary filmmaker. After a decade as an investigative journalist, she found herself increasingly frustrated with the limitations of traditional news formats.
"I wanted to tell stories that needed more than a three-minute segment," Chen explains. "Documentary allows you to sit with a subject, to really understand the complexity of their experience."
Her latest film, 'Voices Unheard,' follows three generations of immigrant women navigating identity in America. The film has already garnered attention at Sundance and is generating Oscar buzz.
